Orthokeratology

Clear vision without surgery, glasses, or daytime contacts.

What if you could correct your eyesight and reduce your dependence on corrective lenses, all while you sleep? It may sound impossible. But for many, it’s a reality with orthokeratology (ortho-k).

Interested? Schedule an appointment with your eye care provider to learn more.

What is orthokeratology?

Ortho-k uses specially designed, gas permeable contact lenses to temporarily reshape your cornea while you sleep. The result is clear vision when you wake up and remove the lenses the following day. And that effect should last throughout the day. The change in the shape of the cornea, as well as the vision correction you experience, will revert when you stop using the lenses.

What visual problems can ortho-k correct?

Ortho-K is most commonly used to temporarily correct myopia (nearsightedness). In some cases, it can be used to correct lesser degrees of astigmatism and farsightedness.

To find out if ortho-k is right for you, get in touch with your eye care provider.

Our Dedication to Technology

At Vision Source on Long Point, we continually invest in cutting-edge technology to provide the most effective and tailored solutions for myopia control and overall eye care. Recently, we have introduced a new multipurpose machine that combines several essential functions into one device, enhancing our ability to assess and treat various conditions.

Investing in such technology allows us to gather more precise data, which ultimately helps us create more effective, tailor-made solutions for our patients. For example, in cases of myopia, this advanced equipment enables us to monitor the lengthening of the eyeball in real time, helping us determine whether our current treatments are working or if adjustments are needed. This data-driven approach is essential for managing conditions such as rapidly progressing nearsightedness, particularly in children.

By using these insights, we can help slow or even halt the progression of myopia, reducing the need for stronger prescriptions over time. We have seen incredible success stories, like a patient who started with significant myopia progression at a young age and, with the help of Ortho-K, managed to reduce her prescription by half, a result that has drastically improved her quality of life.

Additionally, our investment in this technology supports both pediatric and adult patients, particularly those who engage in contact sports or have a mild degree of nearsightedness. Providing effective treatment that reduces dependence on glasses or contact lenses allows athletes to perform without the hindrance of vision correction. For children, this is especially important, as it enables them to play sports like soccer, baseball, or boxing without worrying about losing or damaging their glasses.

Whether it’s slowing myopia progression in children or offering solutions for adults who need clearer vision for daily activities, our advanced technology ensures that each patient receives the most accurate diagnosis and the best possible care plan to meet their unique needs.

Am I a good candidate for ortho-k?

Only your eye care provider can answer that question. However, most people with mild to moderate myopia are good candidates. The treatment is highly preferred for people who have issues wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses.
